FAQ

Why is Turtle such a safe crate to use?

The Turtle is unrivalled in its design. This is the result of years or research, rigorous testing, knowledge and experience in the fields of shock absorption and vibration reduction, and temperature and humidity control. The Turtle was developed by Hizkia van Kralingen in 1994 and has been evolving ever since for the safe transport of artworks worldwide.

What determines the outstanding shock and vibration performance of Turtle?

The Turtle’s advantage is due to extensive research in collaboration with specialized third parties. This resulted in the use of the rigid composite material for the outer shell in combination with the different layers in the interior, which work together to optimize the performance of insulation and shock.

Are test reports available to verify the vibration and shock research on the Turtle?

Yes, these are available. Please contact your agent or send an e-mail to info@turtlebox.com

Can a Turtle be transported lying flat?

The Turtle can be used lying flat but is designed to be used in the upright position during transport. It will not offer the same level of protection against vibration if transported flat.

If flat transport with optimal vibration reduction is necessary, we recommend the use of our T+ blocks. These blocks guarantee vibration reduction on a very high level, also when travelling flat.

Are there different adjustable blocks available?

Yes, there are multiple types of adjustable blocks which can be applied to the needs of the artwork in question. Please contact us for more information.

Is the Turtle waterproof?

Yes. Turtle is officially IPX tested. The level of IPX shows how well a product is protected from water. Turtle is graded for IPX3 and IPX4, meaning it is resistant to water splashes and rainfall.

How sustainable is Turtle?

The minimum lifespan of a Turtle crate is 30 years, resulting in a considerable reduction of materials compared to single-use crates. With our Revision Program, we can extend the lifespan with another decade every decade. All Turtles that have ever been produced, including the first generation of Turtles, are still in use today. Using a single Turtle means that no wooden crates are required to transport artworks, saving at least two trees and additional materials every year.

What is the CO2 emission of Turtle?

In our production process, we offset our CO2 emissions with the use of carbon credits, meaning that each new Turtle is produced CO2 neutral.

Can a painting be packed face down in a Turtle?

Yes, it is possible.

What is the maximum weight for an artwork to be transported safely?

There is no maximum to the weight of the artwork, we add blocks to accommodate more weight.

What if I have no experience packing or unpacking a Turtle?

Turtle is easy to use. We have online tutorials and training possibilities for art handlers that can be used on site or in advance.

Where can I get a Turtle?

Turtle is available worldwide. Please contact us for where to find your local agent.
